What is the thickness of poly sheeting?
Our warehouse stock of plastic sheeting ranges from 1 mil to 10mil thick, however we can supply you with any thickness your project demands! The most commonly purchased size in thickness is 4- 6 mil. The thicker the plastic, the stronger it is. Reinforced sheeting has string/scrim within the plastic, which gives it added strength. In the construction industry, flame retardant sheeting is often used to create a barrier between drywall and insulation. Flame or fire retardant plastic is used in various applications and is often a required specification for commercial remediation and abatement jobsites.
What is a containment room for abatement vs. a dust barrier for construction?
A containment room for abatement helps prevent the spread of hazardous airborne particles such as asbestos fibers, lead dust, and mold spores. Once the designated room is completely sealed off with plastic sheeting a negative air machine is set up with ducting out of the room. The negative air machine draws these contaminants through its HEPA filtration, exhausting clean air out. The negative air pressure created in the contained space with mold, asbestos, or lead prevents the spread of these dangerous particles from the room.
A dust barrier helps prevent construction, remodeling and restoration dust and debris from spreading beyond the specific work site or room. Plastic sheeting is hung from ceiling to floor, taped over vents, windows and ducting to section off the work space.
